While many may think of London as a place for youngsters starting their career, there are plenty of neighbourhoods perfect for settling down and retiring.

South west London in particular has plenty of spots that are more quiet and peaceful for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life without leaving London altogether.

Savills Research analysed data for Telegraph Money looking for key factors retirees search for.

So, we have compiled a list of the best retirement spots in south west London according to this data.

Merton, south-west London

Home to the All England Lawn Tennis Club, Merton takes one of the spots.

The findings from The Telegraph go hand in hand with research undertaken by Which? That found Merton to be one of the top 12 retirement locations.

This is reportedly because of its good healthcare, green spaces and distance to GP services and pharmacies.

Savills research also scored Merton highly because of its access to a town centre and food shops by public transport.

Richmond-upon-Thames, south-west London

Next door to Merton, many others who retire enjoy settling down in Richmond.

The neighbourhood has lots of open space with the borough including both Richmond Park and Kew Gardens.

It is the only borough to span both sides of the river Thames and has many paths, restaurants, bars and cafes along the river.

Back in December it was named the happiest place to live by Rightmove’s property portal.

Epsom & Ewell, Surrey

Just outside of London, Epsom and Ewell is a popular choice for those retiring.

Two-fifths of the borough is designated, green belt land making it a great way to live near countryside but still be close to London.

There are also several golf clubs in the area, which makes it a great choice for people looking to take the sport up in their retirement.

Kingston-upon-Thames, south-west London

Kingston-upon-Thames is another popular choice for those wanting to be able to nip into London but also have some peace and quiet.

There are plenty of scenic walks, places to shop and a theatre if you want to catch a show.

Homes here are cheaper than in Richmond or Wimbledon for those wanting to spend less as they head into retirement.
