Harlequins new boy Tim Swiel is hoping an injury cover switch to the Stoop can fire his Super Rugby ambitions.

The 21-year-old agreed a move from the Sharks this week and will remain with the club until February next year as cover for Ben Botica, who has been ruled out until the new year with a shoulder injury.

Somerset-born Swiel moved to South Africa and attended Bishop's College in Cape Town before signing for DHL Western Province, a club he represented at under 16, 18, 21 and senior levels prior to joining the Sharks in 2013.

"Due to injury, I did not get a lot of game-time during this year's Absa Currie Cup and my coaches at the Sharks and I agree regular game-time during this off season will enhance my preparation and will provide the necessary momentum needed for Super Rugby 2015," he said.

"I believe it can only be beneficial for other young players to get similar opportunities to experience another rugby culture during their off season, which will contribute positively to their growth and experience in the game. I thank The Sharks and Harlequins for granting me this exciting opportunity.”

Quins dfirector of rugby Conor O'Shea said: "While we are very disappointed to lose Ben Botica to injury, I am delighted to be able to bring in someone of Tim's ability from the Sharks at such short notice.

"Tim is a player with real X factor who we are sure will fit within how we play and we look forward to welcoming him to the Twickenham Stoop.”
