Charlie Edwards has insisted his best is yet to come after registering his second professional victory in Sheffield last Saturday.

The 22-year-old flyweight prospect from Beddington who TKO’d Craig Derbyshire in his debut back in January scored another stoppage at Motorpoint Arena on the undercard of local boy Kell Brook’s IBF world welterweight title defence against Canadian-Romanian Jo Jo Dan.

He halted Georgia’s Mikheil Soloninkini (3-8-1) with just a minute to go in the fourth and final round.

“I was waiting around a lot and picking my shots more, trying to be not so eager because I’m always an eager fighter,” said Edwards, the former European Championship bronze medallist and two-time ABA champion, after his victory.

Edwards admits himself he does not need to rush as he is still transitioning from amateur to professional boxing.

But he is keen to develop his punching power, which he has already demonstrated in his opening two contests.

“These four rounds are slightly amateur fights still so it’s feels like I’m still stuck in that mind set,” he added.

“But when I know I’ve got more rounds, I’ll slow it down and that’s when the best will come out of me.

“Since I’ve been working with my strength and conditioning coach in Hackney, we’ve been really developing my power.

“I’ve been sitting down with my shots and I’ve been turning into a man, so over the next few years you will see the best of me.”

Edwards will next appear on the huge Matchroom Sport bill on May 30 at The O2, North Greenwich.
