More than 40 youngsters tackled the Virgin London mini-marathon on Sunday representing the borough of Croydon.

The race, now in its 26th year, is run over the final three miles of the London marathon course.

The U17 men’s squad stole the show, finishing second overall out of the 32 competing boroughs.

South London Harriers’ James Lyne finished a high quality seventh in 15 minutes 36 seconds, closely followed by Herne Hill’s Paul Burgess in 12th.

A Croydon Harriers trio were next thanks to Rob Spalding (37th, 16:41), Kieron Connor (58th, 16:59) and Luke Wakeling (62nd, 17:06).

South London’s Alex Lyne completed the scoring six to confirm the squad’s runners-up spot.

The U13 girls were the next highest squad placing 10th in their age group - spearheaded by Croydon’s Megan Driver in 20:35 for 61st, just one second clear of South London’s Amelia Clark.

Tight packing followed thanks to Jessica Goveia-Slatter (79th, 21:00), Kyra Sethna-McIntosh (82nd, 21:02), Megan Lawrence (104th, 21:32) and Tay Blair (135th, 22:12).

In the U13 boys' ranks, South London’s Thomas Porter bagged 43rd (18:20), with Harry Smith (49th, 18:25) in tow.

Isaac Flanagan sneaked inside the top 100 in 92nd, while Calum Mackinnon-Smith (118th, 19:26), Oliver Anderson (137th, 19:49) and Alfie Smith (144th, 19:55) completed the team who finished 14th.

Three teams placed outside of the top 20 with the U15 girls' team 22nd (led by Jessica Moore in 52nd), and the U17 women’s and U15 boys' teams were both 27th headed up by Emily Howe and Connor Dargan respectively.
