Rob Tolfrey made a winning return between the sticks for Kingstonian and then declared: “The number one shirt is mine.”

Ks overcame VCD Athletic 3-0 on Monday night at Kingsmeadow to record their second three-point haul of the Ryman Premier Division season.

A brace from Pelayo Pico Gomez and an inch-perfect Tyron Smith free-kick saw off the visitors, and helped negate a disappointing 2-1 loss at Wingate & Finchley on Saturday.

Monday night also marked Tolfrey’s return to action after a seven-match ban dished out by the FA regulatory commission in April following an altercation with a Bognor Regis fan last season.

But now he is back, and he wants to put the past behind him and help Ks push for success this season.

Tolfrey said: “I feel like I have been away a very long time, and although I have been training and doing the warm-ups, nothing compares to playing, so I am glad to be back.

“It was a tough time and there is no denying that – but it has all been put to bed, it is all behind me. I did what I had to do and I am ready to go again.

“Elvijs [Putnins] came in and he’s trained hard and played well, but the number one shirt is mine, and you have got to come and get it off me.”

Boss Tommy Williams said: “Our back four has not changed massively over the summer, but having Rob back is a boost.

“He has been at the club a long time, he commands his box well and his distribution is very good. He showed that and I’m pleased he got a clean sheet.”

After a stuttering start to the season, Tolfrey wants Ks to use the win over VCD to push on and go on a winning streak.

To achieve that, Ks need to overcome East Thurrock United on Saturday, and Dulwich Hamlet on Monday.

He said: “The season has been a bit stop-start and we’ve not kept many clean sheets.

“I hope we can build now. It’s why I stayed, I want us to be pushing in the right direction, I don’t want another mediocre season.

“We all want the same thing, and that’s what I am striving for and that’s what I want.”
